THE WAY TO INCREASE ENERGY EFFICIENCY OF STATIC THYRISTOR COMPENSATORS OF REACTIVE POWER WITH FORCED COMMUTATION

Abstract

The work is dedicated to the research of static thyristor compensator of reactive power with forced commutation under conditions of volt adding and to determining integral indicators of its energy process for two management strategies of reactive power: with shift and without shift by the main harmonic. It is shown that this compensator is a system with variable structure and parameters. During the current flowing through the phase reactor in quasi steady mode of the work over the period of voltage supply the static compensator on the first section of the time chart will consume active power from the grid, and the third section will generate it. If the amplitude of the voltage supply is increased by volt adding on the third section of the time chart, the static thyristor compensator with forced commutation will generate more active power. As a result, the value of the specific active power consumption is minimized, that proves economic efficiency of the compensator as a source of reactive power. The suggested way of increasing energy efficiency of static thyristor compensator of reactive power with forced commutation allows to implement power saving technologies of its running and to ensure competitiveness in comparison with other static compensators. Furthermore, the use of volt adding allows increasing the range of adjustment of the control angle of switching thyristors, where the minimum value of the specific active power consumption is provided.
