Abstract

The article deals with the functional and pragmatic nature of suffixed shortenings. Suffixed shortenings naming different narcotic substances are slangy words or colloquialisms that produce a certain pragmatic effect on the recipient. The study investigates the isolated use of suffixed shortenings and their use in context in order to reveal the factors contributing to relatively complete realization of expressive word-form semantics
