Abstract
Guggulu is a resin collected from the trunk of Commiphora mukul plant in Shishir and Hemanta rutu. Guggulu has been described in detail in Ashtangsangraha, Sushrut samhita, Charak Samhita. Acharya has mentioned rasapanchak, Matra, Sevan kala of Guggulu. Acharya has also mentioned Guggulu atisevanjanya vikara. In Ayurveda guggulu found to be very effective in Vata vyadhi(disorder due to Vata dosha) because Guggulu act as Tridoshshamak (Control of all three doshas) as well as Rasayana (Rejuvenation). Guggulu is used as popular medicine for the treatment of Obesity, Hyperlipedimia, and Osteoarthritis etc. The references from different books of Ayurveda have been collected summarized and presented here in this review.
