Abstract

The shoes quite often serves as a subject of myths and magic fairy tales and has special value in symbolical perception of traditional cultures. In the article on the example of the novel of Julia Darling ?The Taxi Driver’s Daughter? there is an attempt to find out how the image of shoes at different levels of the text and ways of its language representation is revealed. In this work the footwear acts as a difficult, polysemic and semantic image. During the analysis it became clear that the most effective methods of transfer of an image of shoes are metaphor and metonymy.
