Abstract
Pramana-samplava and Pramana-vyavastha are the two views that propounded by the Naiyayikas and the Buddhists respectively. The question is that whether more than one means of cognition operated with regard to one and the same object or each mean has its own specific knowledge? The Pramana vyavasthâ, as propounded by the Buddhist, is that each Pramana has its own exclusive and distinct jurisdiction. This theory is opposed by the Naiyâyikas who hold the theory of Pramana sa?plava, which means that the same object can be grasped by more than one Pramana under various circumstances. Besides Jayanta, Uddyotakara, Vâcaspatimiúra and other Naiyâyikas argue against the Buddhists. So, the present paper intends to study the both aspects that relies on the NyŒya and Buddhist philosophy.
