Abstract
The article discusses the main tendencies and perspectives of the Ukrainian substratological studies. The most important impact was done by Ukrainian linguists V.M. Scherbakivskyi, O.B. Tkachenko, Yu.L. Mosenkis, S.V. Borschevskyi, D.I. Pereverziev. Their studies concern Ukrainian substrates as well as substrates of the other Indo-European (Germanic, Celtic) and not Indo-European languages (Korean). V.M. Scherbakivskyi was the first who maintained substrate theory concerning forming of the Ukrainian language. O.B. Tkachenko developed general theory of substrates on the basis of his studies of Uralic substrate in Russian dialects. Yu.L. Mosenkis was the first who tried to combine archeological data with linguistic characteristics of the Ukrainian language and to find correspondeces between them. S.V. Borschevskyi on the basis of his predecessors’ studies investigated words without Indo-European etymologies in the Germanic, Romanian and Slavic languages. D.I. Pereverziev was concerned with phonetic aspects of the substrate influence. Ukrainian linguists have developed all range of the substrate problems.
