Abstract

The article discusses the problem of discerning the linguistic nature of the fairy tale text as language artifact and ethnolinguistic origins of the fairy tale plot. S.K. Rosovetskyi claims that the fairy tale text has implicit meaning that should be decoded by the audience, both by ordinary reader and the scientist. The one of the most problematic issue about the Ukrainian fairy tales is the origin of the texts themselves and the plots embodied by them. Ukrainian fairy tales share many common motives with the fairy tales of the other Indo-European people. Still, Indo-European fairy tales have many in common with Georgian ones. Thus, after copious comparison of the Slavic and Georgian fairy tales’ plots, the author concluded that the linguistic classification of the fairy tale text has nothing to do with its origin and ethnolinguistic roots: the plots are common to peoples notwithstanding their linguistic or genetic kinship.
