TEACHER AND STUDENT RELATED PROBLEMS FACED IN TEACHING SOCIAL STUDIES: SAMPLE OF MUŞ PROVINCE

Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate teacher and student related problems in teaching social studies. Qualitative research methods were used to collect data. Interviews were done with teachers who work in various schools in Muş province. Interviews about what teacher and student related problems are form the main axis of this study. It is aimed to determine teacher and student related problems in teaching social studies according to findings. Lack of experience and practice, the lack of undergraduate education, lack of in-service training, teachers circulation, that teachers do not develop themselves professionally have been noted as teacher related problems whereas readiness level, having difficulty in reading and writing, low motivation, attending class unpreparedly, uninterested parents, economic status disparities, classroom indiscipline have been determined as student related problems. Success in teaching social studies is hampered due to this problem. In this sense, solutions are offered to these problems and suggestions are proposed in order to contribute an effective social studies education.
