Abstract

This article deals with different historiographical traditions in order to deter- mine their impact on the historical studies. Giving some examples of various historical works on Ancient Rome, written by German, Turkish and Russian researchers, the author proves that ethnicity is one of the key factors affecting the humanitarian knowledge and its results. It is also concluded that due to that fact the historical knowledge has some common points with a myth. However, it is essential to realize a positive role which this mythological element plays in the development of science. The point is that it is subconsciously used to ? ll the lacunas when there is some lack of data, what is more, it helps new knowledge go throw the ethnic mentality and be inserted into the historical consciousness
