The Real Time Control of the Percentage of the Catalyzer in the Piston Motors with the Fuzzy Logic

Abstract

Spraying appropriate catalyzer to piston motors gives good results such as motor performance and fuel economy. There is a lot of research for this subject in the literature. One of the most important point in the catalyzer applications to piston motors is the applying the catalyzer in the right time with the right percentage. If the percentage and the spraying time of the catalyzer are not determined according to the instant running conditions, it is known that the desired values cannot be obtained. In this study, the percentage of the catalyzer for the applications of the piston motors has been defined with a fuzzy logic controller in a real time. The implementation has been realized with the one-cylinder diesel motor. In the implementation period, an example of catalyzer, decreases the NOx emissions in the exhaust gases and affects the performance positively, has been dwelled on. The percentage of the catalyzer has been defined according to the number of cycles, load and throttle position got from the motor. A microcontroller development board, 8051 based, has been used to control and read the physical signals. The fuzzy logic controller has been implemented in a MATLAB environment and with an interface developed, the possibility of practical usage has been provided. The communication between the MATLAB user-interface and microcontroller has been achieved by using RS232 standard.
