Abstract
Recently, the imitation buildings of Ottoman architecture style have increased in some parts of İzmit. These buildings are imitated of Ottoman mosque, Ottoman fountain, Ottoman bridge with view kiosk and Ottoman clock tower in İzmit. İmitated buildings are entirely imaginary and designed according to style of “invented Ottoman architecture”. In other words, the buildings have been built without comprehending various periods and features of Ottoman architecture by local authorities. Through imitated buildings, the local goverments has purposed of creating an artifi cial memory and identity for city. In this article, works of the local goverments are evaluated and critized for the inappropriate architectural approaches that doesn’t meet requirements of today.
