Abstract
One of the most prevalent issues throughout the history of ideas and especially in the recent history of Turkey has been the relation between religion and morality. This relation has not only been problematic in itself but has also given rise to a great deal of debates in other realms. Such debates have revealed themselves in a wide range of realms such as politics particularly, different branches of applied ethics and speculative philosophy. In this paper we will try to demonstrate the difficulties which emerge when morality is grounded on religion and the reflections of this on the social realm. Afterwards, we will argue that the only conception of religion which can have a claim on the socio-political realm is the conception of a religion that is founded on morality.
