Abstract

The article analyses female characters in Vasily Zhukovsky’s translations of fragments from "The Metamorphoses" by Ovid ("Ceyx and Alcyone", XI, 410?748) and "The Aeneid" by Virgil ("Destruction of Troy", the second verse), and traces how the Christian understanding of love becomes the basis for the interpretation of pagan characters in Roman literature.
