Abstract

This study aims to determine the perceptions of the informatics technology teachers regarding the notion “the informatics technology teacher” by metaphor s. Topinions of the teachers are obtained in written and the categoric analysis among the content analysis methods is used at the study figured by the scanning model. The teachers, who participated to the study, are requested to complete the sentence “Info rmatics teachers are like...”; “,because...” in order to reveal the perceptions of the informatics technology teachers regarding the term “the informatics technology teacher”. The teachers are requested to use this expression and to concentrate only on one metaphor when stating their opinion in written. These compositions written by the teachers in handwriting have constituted the main data source of the study as each a “document”. The study is conducted via a working group without sampling. The working gro up is constituted with consideration on the data collecting easiness by 56 informatics technology teachers at public junior highschools in the central districts in the provinces Aydın , Denizli and Muğla in the Aegean Region, who accepted voluntarily accepted to answer the metaphor survey in written. 33 of the teachers were male and 23 were female teachers. In the result of the study; the similes loaded by the informatics technology teachers on the notion “informatics technology teacher” in different metaphors are examined and categorized under three themes being technical pe rsonnel, being multifunctional and being a guide by taking into consideration the codes assigned yo these themes. The metaphors generated by the teachers majorly bear meanings which express the versatility of the informatics technology teachers. Beside the se, they have emphasized that the scope and limit of the task they perform isn’t definite, that they are responsible for all tasks within the scope of technology, they perform very different tasks and that these works are important works. It is concluded f rom the expressions of the informatics technology teachers that the main problems of these field teachers is that there is no clear task definition which determines the scope of the work they perform. In the result of the study; it is suggested that an edu cation program should be prepared such that this converts into a course where informatics technologies students are taught the basic informatics technology skills they will use in their future life and that the definition of duties of the these field teach ers should be amended by the participation of the authorized of the Ministry for National Education and the related parties.
