Abstract
The study touches upon the issue of expressing national colour on the example of Lion’s mane, A.C. Doyle’s novel. The study aims at disclosing and describing available ways of preservation of national colour in a literary text. Hence, the target of research is text, and the scope of research includes techniques of expressing national colour of literary text. In a literary text, national colour is mainly represented with proper names, toponyms and company names, whose translation is done through transcription, gender and aspect re-placement or substitution of culture-bound terms of source language through culture-bound terms of target language.
