Relationship between aggression and demographic characteristics in Male High School Students of Ilam

Background and Aim: Neglect of aggression in adolescents increases the unhealthy relationships between people, reduced quality of life, and lead to problems such as truancy, academic failure and substance abuse. So this study aimed to investigate the relationship between a numbers of demographic variables with aggression. Material and Method: In this descriptive- cross sectional study, statistical population was all high school students who were studying in Ilam in the course of the school year 94-95. Using cluster sampling, 265 students were selected as sample. Demographic information and the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire (AQ) was completed by participants. For data analysis, statistical methods of frequency, mean, standard deviation, minimum value and maximum value was used. Tests of inferential statistics were Pearson correlation coefficient, independent t-test, ANOVA test post hoc LSD test. For data analysis, twentieth edition of SPSS software were used. Results: The results showed that there was a significant positive correlation between aggressions with age, while there was no significant relationship with the rank of birth. The level of aggression areas was not significantly in both urban and rural different. Aggression in students majoring in the humanities and mathematics was less than experimental major. Students with unemployed fathers had higher levels of aggression compared to students who their fathers who employed. Conclusion: The findings suggest that efficient skills to manage aggression in adolescence among the important issues that should be more attention.
