Abstract
The paper presents the findings of the case study on the correlation between recent deformation and seismic processes in the fault zones of seismically active regions of Kopet Dag and Kamchatka. During the increase in deformation activity, seismic activity in fault zones has been discovered to be declining, and vice versa. The energy balance of processes was estimated and a mechanism of a sharp increase deformation activity of faults in the areas of low seismic potential is suggested.
