Abstract
The article deals with the representation of the concepts “Bravery”, “Boldness” in the fictional works by Alexander Pushkin and Lord Byron. In the Russian world-view, “bravery” may be displayed in an extreme situation. “Boldness” is represented as more volitional act, which needs much more efforts than the reckless impulse of bravery. On the contrary, in the world-view of the English speaker the rational side predominates over the emotional one. This concept reveals the historical and culturological layers of knowledge that may be useful and interesting to the students studying foreign languages.
