Abstract
Nimesulide a preferential cyclooxygenase -2 inhibitor is an approved analgesic, indicated in the symptomatic treatment of osteoarthritis in adults and for primary dysmenorrhoea in adolescents above 12 years. Due to its better and faster antipyretic action, it has gained popularity among physicians and pediatricians. The risk of hepatopathy among the users of nimesulide was slightly higher than the other Non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs [1] which is about 1 case per 100,000 treated patients and is usually unpredictable and possibly idiosyncratic in nature.A part from acute hepatitis,[2] other adverse drug effect with nimesulide intake includes, multiple enterocolic perforations [3] ,end stage renal failure[4] and cutaneous manifestations like necrotizing fasciitis, pityriasis rosea-like lesions, acute exanthematous pustulosis. [5] This case report discusses toxic epidermo necrolysis and hepatitis caused by Nimuselide use.
