Historical background of artistic and imagery system’s formation of Ukrainian book design in early twentieth century

In the article the Ukrainian historical experience in the graphic arts, especially book graphics are considered. The basic features and vectors of Ukrainian graphic art and its overall aesthetic parameters at different times since the Middle Ages to the early twentieth century are found. It was proved that this historical heritage became a powerful start and a source of inspiration for book artists of the early twentieth century. Elegance and artistic value of the best examples of ancient Ukrainian books and engravings is rich historical background for active surge of aesthetic and functional image search of artists during Modern.
