Abstract

The aim of the research was to determine the contribution of gas transmitters to the oxygen-carrying function of blood and prooxidant and antioxidant state in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease during standard treatment. We examined 17 patients and 11 healthy individuals. The conducted therapy resulted in the improvement of the patients’ condition accompanied by the shift of oxyhemoglobin dissociation curve to the right, as well as by the reduced concentration of common nitrates, hydrogen sulphide, prooxidant and antioxidant imbalance. The data obtained evidence the contribution of gas transmitters to the development of hypoxic states and oxidative damage in this pathology which act through modification of the oxygen-binding capacity of blood.
