Abstract
The works by N.S. Leskov included in the school curriculum usually are “Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District” and “The Enchanted Wanderer”. These novels are not easy to interpret, and their darkness scares away not only schoolchildren, but also philology students. This article considers N. S. Leskov’s Christmas stories and explains the author’s perception of the genre through his artistic features.
