Abstract

This research includes a historical presentation of the housing architecture through the ages and specifically in the era of Arab-Islamic civilization and what distinguishes its exclusive features of the harmony between form and function, and its special techniques of openness around internal space, and more technical specifications about Islamic architecture and its history. Due to the high variety of regions, people tastes and civilizations, the design concept differs from one space to another and it may even differ depending on the function of the building itself, hence, the process of architectural design of the internal space of a house is different from any other process. The trend of Islamic architect which is basically based on innovation and creativity made the process of internal-space design more important. This research will address in its chapters the historical progression of housing architecture and define the linguistic, intellectual and social meaning of this shelter which the human created since his existence, maintained and developed its components in order to survive.
