A Model for Academic Leadership Development of School Administrators under the Offices of Primary Educational Service Area in the Lower Northeastern Region

Abstract

The research and development study is designed to develop A Model for Academic Leadership Development of School Administrators under the Offices of Primary Educational Service Area in the Lower Northeastern Region. This study was divided into three phases: phase I was related to drafting from document, best-practice, in-depth interviews and stakeholder were 124 School Administrators, 124 teacher and 124 Chairmen of the Basic Education School Committee under the Office of Primary Educational Service Area in the Lower Northeastern Region. The size of samples was determined by using Krejcie and Morgan table. The statistics used in analyzing data were: frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. Phase II was to establish an Academic Leadership Development model of School Administrators. The Delphi technique was set to ensure a validity of the drafted model, and 9 Experts to examine suitability and feasibility of academic leadership development model. Phase III: The investigation was conducted by 15 School Administrators. The two paired samples Sign-test was administered. The findings were as follows: 1. The academic leadership behaviors of the School Administrators needed for were developed: Information and communications technology consisted 6 aspects and each aspect was ranked respectively: The information and communications technology for 1) Administrative Management, 2) Infrastructure 3) Teaching and Learning 4) Learning Process Development 5) Achievement Motivation and 6) The resource Information and Communications Technology for Learning. 2. The developing the Model for Academic Leadership Development of School Administrators under the Offices of Primary Educational Service Area in the Lower Northeastern Region involved three stage: Stage I: Pre-Workshop Preparation, Stage II: Workshops included: 1) Intensive Training; 2) Follow-up Activities using the 6 Handbooks and Education and Study Tour, Stage III: Follow-up Meeting Session using Leadership Behavior Assessment. 3. After the intervention, the result showed that the mean post - workshop score was significantly higher than the pre-workshop at the .05 level. In the follow-up session, the mean score significantly higher than the post ? workshop at the .05 level. The 15 school administrators reported that the Developing Leadership Model of School administrators constructed was highly considered useful for developing administrators’ leadership. They had opportunities to learn from the resource persons, from the 6 Handbooks, and from exchanging idea a administrators and the administrators of the excellent schools.
