Abstract

In Turipaná research Center of the Colombian Corporation of Agriculture Investigation (Corpoica) a study was carried out with the objective of evaluating the establishment phase, some agronomic variables (plants by square metro, plants height, leng and wide leaves width) of the Mulato hybrid and for evaluating the beef production obtained with mulatto hybrid and the Brachiaria decumbens, in an area of four and five hectares, respectively, handled in the grazing rotational system with two days of occupation and 22 days of rest in the rain season, and three days of occupation and 33 days of rest, in the dry season. The stocking rate was adjusted according to the forrage availability. Two genetic groups were used: Romosinuano pure and F1 romo x zebu. The evaluation lasted 525 days; the animal was weighted every 30 days. The dry matter yield average from mulato hybrid, in the rain season, was 3235 kilos/ha and 2580 kg/ha in the dry season and for B. decumbens was 2735 and 1248 kg/ha, respectively for the rainy and dry season. Animal live weight gain was 0.532 kilograms and 0.503 kilograms from mulato grass and B. decumbens grass, respectively, without differences statistically (Pe”0.05). The meat yield average per hectare per day in mulato was higher to 481.8 kilos than that obtained with B. decumbens due to fundamental to animal stoking rate was grater in mulato.
