Abstract
In the last decade, technology has significantly changed the process of teaching and learning, but all that has been done so far is, probably, very small compared to the changes that will bring the Internet of Things (Internet of Things, IOT) in the years to come. The Internet of Things is a new paradigm that emerged thanks to advances in telecommunications, the new IP protocol version 6 and nanotechnology integrated into a myriad of electronic devices like mobile phones, home appliances, watches, vehicles and others. The idea of the Internet of Things is to facilitate the interaction of "things" with the people and the integration of all of these devices into the network, which can be managed via the web and receive information in real time. The Internet of Things will change our society and urge us to consider the way we educate future generations of engineers. The concept of the Internet of Things and its impact on higher education is presented in this paper. It also shows both how the University Department of Professional Studies, University of Split, follows the dynamic development of technology and the vision of implementation of the Internet of things in its educational processes.
