NOMINATIVE SPACE OF MICROSPHERE OF CONCEPTS OF TERRORISM IN THE MODERN ANGLO-AMERICAN POLITICAL DISCOURSE

Abstract

The study object is Anglo-American linguistic and conceptual world images. The study subject is structural, semantic, onomasiological, linguo-cognitive and stylistic aspects of means expressing microsphere of concepts of TERRORISM in the modern Anglo-American political discourse. Units of various lexical and grammatical classes, denoting the phenomenon of terrorism, create integral nominative space, structured according to field principle of lexis organization. The description of nominative space of microsphere of concepts of TERRORISM allows better revealing of common mechanisms and principles of expression of terrorism phenomenon, promotes expansion of our knowledge about conceptual and linguistic world images. Scientific novelty of the research is that microsphere of concepts of TERRORISM is allocated and analysed as a complex of interconnected concepts of TERRORISM, VIOLENCE, WAR, LAWLESSNESS, forming a nuclear construction in a number of conceptual spheres and denoting various types of terrorist activity. The paper first conducts a complex study of multilevel linguistic units, representing microsphere of concepts of TERRORISM in the modern Anglo-American political discourse. Terrorism was considered as microsphere of concepts, based on interaction of concepts of TERRORISM, VIOLENCE, WAR and LAWLESSNESS; its place in the modern conceptual world image of Anglo-American political discourse was determined as well as structural, onomasiological, semantic and stylistic peculiarities of units, verbalizing this microsphere of concepts in journalistic texts of the modern Anglo-American political discourse; lexical means representing various types of terrorist activity and ways of counterterrorism were systematized; lexical units functioning in Anglo-American journalistic texts as image-bearing specific marks denoting terrorism phenomenon were allocated and described. Nuclear and outer stratification of a fragment of linguistic world image to denote terrorism was established, its thematic parceling, based in the research on synonymic rows was defined
