Abstract
Purpose - to establish the frequency of the most common helminth infections and to assess the degree of public awareness of the need for preventive work. Materials and methods. The object of the study was the results of the annual reports of the State Institution “Grodno Regional Center of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health” on the state of parasitic diseases morbidity in the Grodno region over the past 3 years. In addition, in order to solve the problem of public awareness a questionnaire survey of children and adults was conducted. Results and conclusions. We established that despite apparent simplicity in the diagnosis and prevention of helminth infections, their relevance is maintained. A growth of helminth infection rates, reduced coverage of the population by examination and decreased monitoring of the infection rates were noted. The poll showed that it is necessary to conduct wider health education with the purpose of preventing helminth infections.
