Abstract
The investigations that make it possible to reveal some features of the formation of a surface being machined at multipass flat face grinding with the preliminary inclination of the spindle axis are carried out. The role of the factors in this process such as the angle of inclination of the spindle axis, grinding depth, wheel diameter and cross-feed are established. Taking into account the importance of cross-feed, the value of which at the stage of pre-machining is to ensure the absence of the areas on the machined surface, which will remain unaffected with the wheel, and at the stage of finishing is to ensure the desired height of residual ridges, it is proposed to harmonize the value of cross-feed with the value of the width of the contact of the wheel cutting surface with the workpiece. The investigations using computer-aided geometric simulation are carried out, the result is an empirical dependence of the contact width of the wheel cutting surface with the workpiece on machining conditions and thus it is possible to solve the problem of the determination of wanted value of cross-feed. All this make it possible to improve the process of flat face grinding and thereby to expand its technological capabilities.
