Abstract

In the developing countries like India waste water treatment is being serious problem in big cities, particularly in mega and metro cities. The studies mainly focuses on developing an Angular Horizontal Subsurface flow constructed wetland pilot scale plant for treatment of urban lake polluted water of Bellandur lake, Bangalore. In the pilot scale plant, polluted water moves through the media of course aggregate and fine aggregate as substrates on which free floating plants are routed. For the analysis of the treated water samples were collected at 2 days HRT. The system continued to run until the reduction in the percentage of chemical oxygen demand and Biological oxygen demand by 100%. The study reflected different treatment efficiencies on 20th day for different parameters such has Biological oxygen demand, Chemical oxygen demand and Phosphate were reduced by 100%, similarly the Dissolved oxygen increased by 91.74%, Electrical conductivity was reduced by 82.26%, Total dissolved solids were reduced by 82.23%, Fluoride was reduced by 66.67% and Iron was reduced by 89.40%. The plants also showed positive growth, increase in numbers of plants and total mass.
