Effects of sun dried organic apricot on some hematological parameters in rats

Abstract
The first aim of this study was to investigate nutritional importance of sun dried organic apricot (SDOA) and the second aim was to determine optimum ratio(s) and period(s) of SDOA supplementation to the diets of rats based on hematological parameters in rats. Therefore, this study was performed on a control group and in four different rates of SDOA supplementation and three different periods. This study was carried out on 120 male and 120 female rats. The rats were randomly divided into five groups for both genders (n=24/group male; n=24/group female): the control group was fed with standard rat chow, and the others were fed with 1; 2.5; 5 and 10 % SDOA supplemented diet. On the 30th days, for hematological measurement on automatic hematological assay analyzer ~1ml fresh blood was taken from eight rats within each gender and groups (total 40 male and 40 female). This procedure were repeated on 60th and 120th days. In conclusion, 1 % rate and 120 days period SDOA consumption were shown beneficial effects for each gender of rats especially on RBC, HGB and HCT parameters and to perform similar studies in humans will be accurate for treatments of anemias.
