Abstract
Various parts of Premna tomentosa (Verbenaceae) are widely used in Indian Ayurvedic medicine. It is traditionally used to treat diarrhoea, hepatic disorders, dog bites, anaemia and rheumatism. It also used as lipid lowering agent and as diuretic. Tender leaves used as food by tribal people of Andhra Pradesh (India). In this study, we demonstrate in vivo anti-diabetic activity of an ethanolic extract of Premna tomentosa in STZ-induced type-II diabetic rats. This study was carried with 250mg/kg and 500mg/kg doses of ethanolic extracts of root of Premna tomentosa in rats.
