INDIVIDUALISM AND COLLECTIVISM SCALE IN YOUNG PERSONS: THE STUDY OF VALIDITY AND REABILITY

Abstract
In this study analyzing validity and reliability of a scale is purposed that will specify the collectivist and individualist attitudes of young person over 15. After review the literature, 74 prepared scale items were consulted to the opinions of Turkish language and educational science experts. In accordance with the opinions of experts 7 items are taken out from the scale form. The left 67 items are revised and the scale form is finalized. 494 first grade students of the Eskişehir Osmangazi and Anadolu Universities compose the sample of this research. In the result of Explorary Factor Analysis 38 items are taken out from the scale because of having close values in more than one sub-scale. It's observed that 3 sub-scales in collectivist top title is gathered while 5 sub-scale in individualist in the left 29 items. The reported variance amount of the scale is observed as %56.98. It shows variety between .60 and .78 in the coefficient consistency of the 8 sub-scales. The internal coefficient consistency is actualized as .77 for the whole of the scale. Depending on these findings we can say that the Scale is a valid and reliable measuring instrument which can be used in schools and other groups.
