Abstract

The concept of social media, which emerged as a new concept after the emergence of the internet concept, is being applied and attracted by the vast majority of the society. The high rate of social media usage is recognized by many segments of society. Concentration of social media use; the problems of the individuals' lives have also moved into this new atmosphere. Crimes of bullying in normal life have been moved to virtual media with social media, and cyber-bullying has turned into antagonism. The concept of abuse is also included in the concept of bullying. With this research, it was tried to determine the views of female undergraduate students who use social media applications, whether they have been abused through social media, which social media applications are being used, and whether social media harassment can be abolished. In this research, in-depth interviewing technique was chosen as qualitative research methods as scientific research method. A semi-structured form was used as a data collection tool and data were obtained by interviewing participants. For the purpose of the study, a working group was selected from social media users of similar social status with similar demographic characteristics. As a working group, 100 people were interviewed. As a result of the statements of the participants, it can be said that the participants are conscious of the concept of harassment and take the necessary security measures in the social media where women are harassed, two females are harassed, harassment in the social media is mostly performed by strangers, abuse is found in all social media applications. In traditional media, women who do not face such problems have different ideas and solutions in this situation. In addition, the majority of participants expressed the view that harassment in the social media could be prevented.
