Abstract

Horizontal forces are key factors in the design of the structure and in general, these forces are evaluated using a linear static method with the incorporation of Response reduction factor (R). The actual intensity of the horizontal force is minimized by the Response reduction factor (R). However, IS code 1893:2016(Part -1) does not give information about the components of the Response reduction factor (R). The value mentioned in IS code (R for SMRF=5 and OMRF=3) may be based on expert engineering judgment without any scientific basis. The Present research work focuses on the calculation of Response reduction factor (R) of SMRF frame considering sloped in Zone V. Fifteen frame models were prepared according to the guideline of IS 456:2000 and earthquake forces on the frame was assigned as per IS 1893:2016 (Part-1) for the research purposes. Evaluation is carried out according to the Applied Technical Council (ATC-19). Pushover analysis also termed as nonlinear static analysis under the displacement control method is performed on the analytical models by an integrated finite element software for structural analysis and design called ETABS V17. P-delta governs the geometrical nonlinearity of structures. It has been observed overstrength of the regular structures is more as compared to irregular geometrical structures whereas the ductility reduction factor does not show any significant trend. Most of the structures show a higher Response reduction factor (R) then mentioned in IS 1893:2016 (Part-1). Moreover, all the models are limited in 6 stories and with the same structural property, additional research is needed considering a wider set of parameters framework.
