STUDENTS’ AND TEACHERS’ PERCEPTIONS ABOUT THE FLIPPED CLASSROOM INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGY IN PAKISTAN

Abstract

Technology has revolutionized the teaching learning process. Now web-based instruction is widely used all over the world and active teaching learning practices are adopted by many educationists over the past many decades. In modern era a new teaching model known as “Flipped-Classroom” has been introduced. Transferring lecture outside the classroom and taking homework inside the class via technology is the basic features of flipped classroom. The focus of this study was to explore the views/opinions of students and teachers after working in the science flipped classroom. For that purpose focus group discussions with the students and semistructured interviews with the teachers were conducted to know their views about the concept of flipped classroom. The results of the study concluded that both students and teachers appreciated the student-centered approach in flipped classroom, where use of ICT was encouraged. They acknowledged the effectiveness of flipped classroom for better students' performance. They also accepted that this idea of flipped classroom is implementable in Pakistani schools. What is needed is its proper utilization or implementation. Current research has implications for school teachers and students. It is recommended that proper trainings are required for teachers related to the flipped classroom in order to make the teaching-learning process more effective
