Abstract

The article presents the results of a theoretical and empirical study aimed at studying the indicators of narcissistic regulation in people with external and internal type of locus of control. It was used the methodology «Questionnaire of the level of subjective control» by J. Rotter to diagnose the internal and external types of behaviour. The study of the manifestations of narcissistic personality regulation was studied with the «Test for assessing narcissism» in the adaptation by V. Vid, N. Zalutsky, A. Vuks. The results of the correlation analysis between the indicators of the narcissistic regulation system and the level of subjective control are presented. It was revealed the presence of predominantly negative significant correlations between the majority of indicators of narcissism and indicators of the locus of control. Profiles of indicators of narcissistic regulation in groups of individuals with external and internal locus of control are considered. It was found that there are certain features in the manifestations of narcissistic regulation in representatives of a group of people with different types of locus of control. The narcissistic regulation of personality in this work is considered as the support of affective balance in relation to feelings of inner stability, self-confidence, well-being, self-worth, that is, in relation to the feeling of own Self. Correlation analysis empirically confirmed the relationship between the indicators of the locus of control and the functioning of the narcissistic regulation system. It was revealed that the indicator of internality (I) is negatively associated with such indicators of narcissistic regulation as: powerless Self (PS), insignificant Self (IS), negative bodily Self (NBS), symbiotic Self defence (SS), narcissistic benefit from the illness (NBI), the overall indicator of narcissism (OI). The indicator of externality (E) established a significant positive relationship only with the indicator of narcissistic benefit from illness (NVI). The qualitative analysis is showed that the representatives of the group of persons with the external type of locus of control are more characteristic of narcissism than the representatives of the group of persons with the internal type of the locus of control. Powerless Self is peculiar to «external» personalities, they subjectively perceive the fragility of their personality; are prone to loss of adequate control of emotions and impulses over destructive motives; avoid confrontation with their failure and blame it on their bodily Self. The «internal» personalities are characterized by a stronger Self, preservation of self-organization and self-regulation of behaviour in the event of a feeling of intense fear, the presence of a realistic sense of one's own powerlessness; setting on the realization of their personal resources despite possible difficulties, expectation of positive treatment of others, autonomy, self-confidence
