Abstract

The literature review, prepared from the point of view of a practical embryologist, highlights the fundamental regularities of the stages of cell division, as the key to the formation of normal embryogenesis. The main section of the publication contains excellent illustrative material. A number of these mechanisms occurring during the maturation of the oocyte, up to its fertilization, can help to understand and explain to practitioners the disorders in the early stages of oogenesis and, as a consequence, developmental arrest in the early stages of GV, MI, or MII without a chance of oocyte maturation and embryo development. Meiotic progress depends on the precise control of key regulatory proteins. Any change in these key steps could result in failure to ripen. The cause of repeated failures in the maturation of oocytes in the human body is difficult to differentiate in practice. The only way out for such patients is to use a donor oocyte if the violation lies deep in the regulatory proteins and the genome.
