INFORMATION LITERACY OF INTENDING PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS AS A COMPONENT OF ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

Abstract

In the article the interdependence between the developing of intending primary school teachers' information literacy and the level of academic integrity is analyzed. The importance of developing students' information literacy not only in education, but also in the professional development, self-improvement and solving important life tasks is revealed. The need for intending teachers to master universal knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as personal qualities: adaptability, mobility, the ability to acquire new knowledge, orientation in the information space, which provides a comprehensive developing of information literacy, is highlighted. The factors contributing to the developing of a virtuous educational environment are emphasized. In turn, the insufficient level of information culture and basic skills and abilities to work with information often leads to violations of the academic integrity norms by intending primary school teachers. As a result, efforts should be made to combat plagiarism in student works, students should be taught to adhere to academic integrity and avoid any plagiarism. Therefore, the main task of educational institutions is to create a favorable environment for the observing academic integrity. Institutions of higher pedagogical education are designed to provide a high level of students' professional knowledge and skills, to develop a creative personality of a modern teacher capable of research and innovative activity, as well as self-improvement in this area. The aim of the article is to actualize the importance of developing information literacy of intending primary school teachers as a holistic system, as well as to outline its connection with the observing academic integrity. The task is to substantiate the environment favorable to the establishment of fundamental values of academic integrity. The article material allows to draw a conclusion that the implementation of above mentioned measures: developing information literacy and information culture at all levels; creating conditions for adherence to the principles of academic integrity; systematic inspection of academic plagiarism at students' scientific works; mandatory disciplinary action for breaches of academic integrity, contributes to raising the levels of intending primary school teachers' academic culture and strengthening academic integrity in the educational environment. Therefore, the efforts of all scientific and educational institutions and government agencies should be aimed at creating conditions for academic integrity and respect for the results of their own and others' intellectual and creative activities.
