DEVELOPING ACADEMIC VIRTUE IN THE TRAINING OF FUTURE UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE TEACHERS

Abstract

Introduction. Ukraine's European integration aspirations in matters of the quality of higher education and science require innovative approaches in accordance with the criteria for the provision and control of higher education in the European Union, first of all, the introduction of fundamental principles of academic integrity, the development of academic culture as a mandatory component of the shaping of a civilized democratic society. An important component of the development of the internal system of quality assurance in institutions of higher education is the university system of ensuring academic integrity, which regulates the standards generally accepted by the world community for the conduct of educational and scientific activities by stakeholders, creates principles of zero tolerance for violations of academic integrity. One of the important tasks set before the future teacher, who teaches to speak and think, analyze and draw conclusions, and also the ability to justify their reasoning, form judgments and, ultimately, independently acquire knowledge and improve. Purpose. The article aims to outline the peculiarities of the formation of academic integrity of future teachers of the Ukrainian language and literature. Methods. Observation, questionnaire, and generalization were used. Results. The basis of obtaining a higher education is the formation in the students of education, including future teachers of the Ukrainian language and literature, of a system of values that influence educational and scientific activity in a higher education institution, further professional and personal growth at the workplace, compliance with moral principles and the rules of relationships in the teaching staff, the creation of a friendly and trusting atmosphere in the process of communication with students and parents - all this is one of the important indicators of the level of professional competence of the teacher, his ability to satisfy the requests of the stakeholders of the educational process The paradigm of the concepts of «academic integrity» and «academic honesty» reflects the individual's internal culture and the university's general academic culture. The content of the concept covers academic traditions, the formation, and observance of moral principles and values, the spiritual and moral culture of a person involved in the academic environment, compliance with the standards and rules of conducting scientific research, responsibility for the achieved and published results before public society, their transparency, and dissemination. Originality. Students of the program «Secondary education (Ukrainian language and literature)» added the course «Fundamentals of academic writing» to the possible ways of forming a culture of academic integrity as a tool for introducing the principles of academic integrity into the educational and scientific activities of the university. Conclusion. Therefore, the conducted research makes it possible to affirm the positive dynamics of awareness of the concept of «academic integrity» by future teachers of the Ukrainian language and literature, not as an abstract and detached from the realities of life, but as a necessary factor in the formation of the ability for oral and written scientific communication, practical skills for writing texts, academic rhetoric, public speaking skills.
