ARCHIVAL INSTITUTIONS OF CHERNIHIV IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE XX CENTURY

Abstract
The article analyzes the history of archival institutions of Chernihiv in the first half of the 20th century. The aim is to analyse progress of the archived establishments trends and their connection with the historical study of the particular region. There was found that the history of archival affairs in the region has deep roots and has been actively developed since the late 19th century. A large role played Chernihiv provincial archival Commission, which has created a historical archive and joined local historians. Productively developed archives in 20-s of the 20 century. Archivists took an active part in the local history movement. Repression of 30s of the 20th century had extremely negative consequences for the further development of archives and history research. There were identified major difficulties in the question of resuming the work of archival institutions in the postwar period. The author pais attention to the important role of archives in the development of local history and local lore activities of archival institutions in general. There was proved, that the research of Chernihiv archivists carry a significant imprint of Soviet ideology and require critical analysis.
