Abstract

The purpose of the presented publication consists in definition of a contribution of professor, the archpriest M. K. Pavlovsky in a development of education and spiritual education in the Imperial Novorossiysk University (INU). Application of scientific methods of the analysis and synthesis, made possible research of spiritual heritage of the professor. Features of its teaching and educational activity in Rishelyevsky lyceum – the predecessor of INU where it since 1833 read the Scripture are considered. Subsequently since 1838 he as professor headed new created chair of dogmatic and moral divinity, church history and an ecclesiastical law. At the same time he became the prior of lyceum church of St. Alexander Nevsky. M. K. Pavlovsky considered as the main task of the activity education of lyceum students and education in the spirit of Christian morals. After INU opening professor M. K. Pavlovsky headed Divinity chair where worked during 1865-1873. Teaching work of professor attracts attention. Its lectures on divinity testified to a high professional standard. It brought up at students of aspiration to knowledge and high Christian morality. Memoirs of his former pupils became confirmation. After end on a state of health of the fruitful pedagogical activity Mikhail Karpovich remained at a position of the archpriest of university Alexander Nevsky Church. It is emphasized that until the end of the life M. K. Pavlovsky didn't interrupt the communications with INU. He presented to university library of 450 books on divinity. After the death it bequeathed to Novorossiysk university of 6 800 rub. For percent from this capital which was stored in the Odessa Office of the State Bank, the monthly grant of a name of the professor M. K. Pavlovsky for the best orthodox students was founded.M. K. Pavlovsky's educational and education activity left the bright page in the university chronicle. His attitude towards students, aspiration to impart them love to science and to bring up high level of spirituality kept the relevance up to now.
