Abstract
The article studies vitally important for the artists of the end of the 19th — beginning of the 20th century subjects of peasant life. It focuses primarily on the paintings by Elena Andreevna Kiseleva (1878–1974) whose works due to her forced early emigration are relatively unknown to the public, fine art experts and artists. E. A. Kiseleva turned to the subject of peasantry in the Academy of Arts working in I. E.
