Article is devoted to comparative analysis of a miniature genre in various fields of art. Among the dominant features of the genre — small format, pithiness, vivid imagery and expressiveness. Studying miniatures connected with the area of genre theory, which deals with the problem of separating forms into large and small. Differentiation of large and small forms in various fields of art is determined not only by their size but also their specific characteristics of the composite structure. It is important to note that, despite the common design principles to various fields of art, there are subtle differences that reveal their unique features. Thus, among the main qualities of pictorial miniatures — honed craftsmanship, subtlety of artistic techniques, organic link with the selected format, the attention to detail of the composition, brightness and freshness of color. Among the main characteristics of literary miniatures — conciseness, substantial capacity, spontaneous origin of intention, symbolization of imaginative sphere, fragmentation. The birth of the genre in music is inextricably linked with the piano instrument and his pedal-overtone sonority. Typical signs of piano miniatures are the romantic impulse, emotional flexibility, semantic tensions of intonation. Nevertheless, the unique properties of piano miniature are caused not only the inherent properties of musical creativity, but also the “memory of the genre” (M. Bakhtin), in which organically combines the features of many arts.
