Abstract
This article describes the pedagogical activity of Karl Rabus in the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. His name associated with creation of the Moscow school of landscape painting. Artist and teacher, he made a significant contribution to the development of Russian realistic landscape, which formation was in the middle of the XIX century. “Melting” of the romantic painting and “view” painting (styles that dominate in the Russian landscape school of the 1840-ies) with the national basis and their synthesis were necessary for the development of
Russian landscape. The creativity of Rabus was a “melting shop”, the bridge between romanticism and realism in Russian landscape. Rabus was an outstanding teacher. He has had a serious effect on his students including A. Savrasov and I. Shishkin
