Abstract

The article deals with the concepts of the anthropological type (race) and various ethnic communities (people, nationality, ethnic group) with reference to the criminalistic verbal description of the external appearance of a person. A comparative analysis of these concepts is carried out, a conclusion is made about their identification and confusion, statistics on their use in criminalistic practice are given. The idea of the need for a comprehensive use of information about the anthropological type of a person and his belonging to an ethnic community is substantiated. The fact of a semantic contradiction of the terms used in criminalistic practice for the description of ethnic communities is ascertained. It is proposed to use the terms describing them according to one of the generally accepted criteria in ethnology, in particular, on the taxonomic level: «metaenic community», «ethnos» («nationality»), «ethnic group».
