THE EFFECTS OF THE FREQUENCY OF WATCHING DOCUMENTARIES ABOUT SCIENCE TOPICS AND GENDER ON ATTITUDES TOWARDS SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY COURSE

Abstract
The purpose of this study is examine the sixth grade students' attitudes towards science abd technology course, taking into account the frequency of watching documentaries about science topics and gender. 157 sixth grade students studying in a secondary school in Ankara was participated to this study. A five level likert type scale was applied to student to determine their attitudes towards science and technology course and the frequencies of watching documentaries about science topics. The data obtained from study were analyzed by using SPSS 15.0 package program. In this analysis, the "Independent Sample t-test" technique was used. As a results of this study, it is found that the attitudes towards science and technology course of students, who frequently watch documentaries related to science topics is more positive than those who never watch, but there is not statistically significant between boys and girls' attitudes towards science and technology course. From this perspective, it is supposed that being the habit of watching documentaries positively affects the students' attitudes towards sciences and technology course.
