Abstract
The article consideres dofferent methods in teaching foreign languages. Detailed analysis has been conducted of grammar-translation (based on the grammatical aspect of translation) and lexical-translation (in which the center of attention is the vocabulary) methods. A brief excursion has been made into history of indicating the influence of Latin teaching methods to the practice of teaching the European languages. The emphasis is put on the difficulties related to differences of grammatical and lexical source language and the target language, as well as the need for component elements analysis by comparing lexical phenomena in the structure of coherent text. Translation of coherent text foresees in most cases the complex use of translation methods and techniques considering the fact that the text is a single unit in the semantic and structural plans. Grammar-translation method involves the ability to work with grammatical nuances that appear in the analysis of the forms and structures of the original language, and their equivalents in the target language. Lexical-translation method is based on the study of language based on connected texts are mostly original, not adapted. This focuses not on the accuracy of reproduction of certain structures in the original language and the target language, lexical analysis and the saturation of the text in a foreign language and trying to pass it means the native language. The major advantages of translated techniques in teaching foreign languages is the ability to use various methods of working with coherent text, translation and analysis of complex passages; establishing analogies and "intelligent" parallels the native language; searching for the equivalent in translation; understanding of the grammatical system of the language of the original; assimilation of values of certain lexical items in context.
