Abstract

The article deals with the issue of analysis of linguo-pragmatic peculiarities of professional speaking of doctors that are to be taken into consideration while building an EPP (English for Professional Purposes) competence in speaking of prospective pediatricians. The dominant types, forms, genres, functions, communicative strategies, lexical and stylistic features of an EPP speaking of prospective pediatricians are defined. The main types of an EPP speaking of prospective pediatricians are presented by external and internal; monologic and dialogical, polylogical; face-to-face and indirect; formal and academic; spontaneous and planned; formal and informal; long-term and short-term; personality and socially oriented ones. The listed types of an EPP speaking of prospective pediatricians are outlined on the following criteria: expression of language means, manners of interaction of communicators, specific character of communication channels, functions and content of the message, type of organization of the message, communication spheres, and relations between communicators, duration of communication, social factors and management. The mentioned above types of communication focus on the communicative situations of professional communication of pediatricians: reception of the patient, being on calls, examination, hospitalization, consultation with other specialists, meetings and seminars. The dominant forms of communication of doctor-pediatricians in view of management of professional interaction are the following ones: individual and group conversations, phone talks, talks over other means of communication with patients and their parents, consultations with colleagues, on-line communication, seminars, conferences meetings, discussions, councils of physicians. The conversations with patients and their parents, consultation with colleagues, discussions, speeches at the meetings and councils, public reports at the seminars and conferences are defined as the leading genres of EPP speaking of prospective pediatricians. It has been substantiated that the texts, which are the examples of types, forms, genres of EPP speaking of prospective pediatricians, reflect its functions, lexical and stylistic peculiarities, and demonstrate communicative strategies as well, belong to the subject aspect in the framework of building an EPP competence in speaking of prospective pediatricians.
