Abstract

The article describes the preparation, process and results of the experiment aimed at verification of the methodology of the formation of German language competence in reading mass media texts of future philologists. The results of the experimental teaching using two versions of the suggested methodology have been analysed. The author presents the pre- and post experimental tests content, experiment structure and data interpretation. The experiment was conducted according to its four stages: organization, realization, verification and interpretation. The estimation criteria of the formation of German language competence in reading mass media texts of future philologists (level of media competence, level of ability to read online, level of prognostic abilities, level of lexical and grammatical skills of reading, level of skills of search reading, skimming and scanning, level of skills of сareful reading) have been grounded. The suggested experimental hypothesis based on such factors as the expediency of the developed system of activities, the appropriateness of learning process model which presupposes using the suggested subsystem of exercises for reading authentic mass media texts, selected according to the scientifically based principles, has been proved proved. The variable and invariable terms are also defined and explained. The constants in the experiment were the following: the duration of the study; the number of students who participated in the experiment; the level of students; the amount of classes and self-study hours; teaching materials; assessment criteria for English reading competence, the teacher. The two versions of the suggested methodology were also analyzed and compared during the main experiment. The students of groups EG-1 and EG-3 at the first stage performed 30% of exercises in the classroom, and 70% during the independent work (version A). The students of groups EG-2 and EG-4 did exercises for B version: 70% of exercises on the first stage were done in the classroom, and 30% as a self-study. The results of the experiment, checked with the help of statistical methods (namely Fisher's angular transformation and the Mann-Whitney U-test), proved the effectiveness of both versions. The results of the methodological experiment proved of the effectiveness of the suggested methodology.
